Default Supplementing with Vegetables?

I read it was important to feed my Pleco with vegetables. I am unsure how to do this, the last time i put a slice of cucumber in my tank it turned the water to muck and killed all my shrimp. Anybody care to share the proper method of how to do this?

I use Zucchini instead... I always wash the outside off first to get rid of any pesticides. Then I slice it up (only the amount I will be feeding), cover the cut up pieces with water in a bowl, cook in the microwave for around 2 minutes (depending on the thickness/amount of slices), run cold water over the pieces to cool them off, remove the skin and drop into the tank(s).

For a 3" Plec, you could use a piece about 1 x 1".
It may take them a few times to get used to it, so it's best to remove any uneaten stuff the next morning. After that, they usually clean it right up, but it's still best to watch and remove any uneaten portions within 24 hours.

You can leave the skin on if you wish (they really like it), but be sure that it isn't a complete ring that they may get their head stuck in.
