Default Clown Loach troubles

I have two new clown loaches(1-2months) in my tank. They are very healthy and eating fine, also, very active like normal clown loaches. They have what looks like a whitish clear substance on their skin. I know what ich looks like and it is not that it looks more like a crackle scale substance. I have some pimafix and melafix but not for sure if I should dose. It really looks like dry skin. Any help?

Probably a stupid question but, have you checked all of the chemical parameters in your water recently? A pH change might cause their protective slime to deteriorate, as an example. Just grasping at straws!

Yes I bet they have went through a PH change. I have been trying to get my PH/KH/GH up in my cichlid tank which they are in. I bet that is it I will keep a close eye on them.

Andy, what are you using to try to get the pH, KH, and GH up on your tank?
Usually all it takes is a cup or so of crushed coral to keep it buffered.

The other thing is that Clown's really prefer more acidic water, with a lower hardness, so they may not be too happy with what you're trying to do, and may not be the best choice for the hard water Cichlid tank.
