Hello all,

I have been reading this forum and the information is invaluable.

Here is info on my tank: Trigon 350Lt, JBL CO2, Aquamedic dosing pump, 240w of light.

I have had a few problems recently with losing fish, due to nitrite being in my tap water, so i got an RO unit on order, but will not be with me for a few days.
I have 50lt of RO water that i picked up from the LFS, that i can use for my water change today.

Basically i was wondering what would be the best GH/KH for my planted tank? Im new at this and havent understood what would be best.

I have seen http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/pearson_square.phpand i can work out how much water/mix i need to make, but im not sure what the best KH for my planted tank would be?

Fish are: Rainbows, RTBS, Rummys, Harlequins, Angels, corrys..
Water: co2- >30ppm, PH 6.9-7, no3 - 40-50, po4 1-2, KH - 178ppm. Tap GH- 200

Tank is heavily planted and i dose EI with a pump.

Anything else you need to know, please ask.

Cheers,
James

Thanks for the advice. I would have not bothered using RO water if i didnt find that there was nitrite from the tap, well thats what my test kit shows, and by only having a co2 content of 30-35ppm (gradually increased), the fish should not be coming up for air, so it narrows it down to a water contaminent.

After adding that 50lt of RO water yesterday, the KH came down to 7, from 11 & Gh is around 10. So on my next 50% water change im planning to use 100% RO water, and see if i can get rid of the nitrite, and get the optimum levels.

My plants are doing well, they all pearl after a few hours when the light come on at the KH i was using, but i guess having it lower will be better.

I live in the UK, and it seems they put in lots of chemicals in our tap water..
