I pulled some drift wood out of storage and boiled it. This aquarium sits right next to the computer so I took notice when one of these "worm-like" millipedes stuck it's head out.
They must be native to Maryland. I have noticed them in 1/2"-3" lengths, and about the width of a blackworm. They occupying small holes of driftwood but they do come out to crawl around. They have a defined white head with small white antenna that resemble an ant's head segment minus the mandibles. Each segment appears to have black dot above the legs.
I may have killed them treating the aquarium with prazi, hope not. I would be curious if anyone could help me begin to identify them. Maybe they will be prolific - and be non-poisonous to fish - and I will never have to buy blackworms again.
