have you guys ordered plants online? just wondering coz as i was browsing through plants to learn the names, i saw a review of someone from honolulu. i thought agriculture was strict here about plants so i didn't think you could order them online...

As far as I know, as long as the plants aren't on the federal noxious plant and weed list, it is fine. Animals though, that's a totally different issue.

Many of the online companies are located in the US. Because of that they don't need a certificate as required for importation by the USDA. If you're talking about hobbyists you are quite right that unless they are in the country that you are in you can't ship without following their country regulations regardless of the weed category. If they are in your country then you have to follow the regulations and not ship noxious weeds. There is a federal list and state lists of what plants are noxious weeds. Yeah, you need a permit for importing fish, even from the mainland US. Don't need one for aquarium plants afaik. Unless you plan on transporting something on the noxious weed list, I presume then you would need a permit if it is even allowed.

Best way to get plants, besides collecting or local hobbyists, is from mainland hobbyists.
