Default May Meeting on the 28th

In addition to our Field Trip on May 21, HAAPS will still be having a regular meeting on May 28th. It will be at kwc1974's house (PM Kevin for address and directions). Topic of discussion will be aquascaping technique, hardscape placement, and creating "depth". We'll use Kevin's "Cypress" tank as an example. If time allows, I'll give some tips on how to use those techniques in a low tech or NPT setting.

Meeting time will be 1:00. Don't come hungry, but you can feel free to bring a snack if you wish (Maybe The Old Man will bring Tootsie Rolls!! ).

-Dave

Just a quick look into June, we plan on meeting in a more central spot in Houston. You can come hungry to that one. Details to come...

How'd you get "available" for the 28th? Or are you taking the kids with you (I figured Briana would be at the IHM Conference). I'll be missing this one I think, but I'd like to see pics of the Cypress Tank. Is there a thread on it on this site?

Yep...Briana will be in Dallas and Kevin and I are going to lock my children in his garage during the meeting...er...I mean let them play...somewhere...with stuff...

Yes, there is a thread on the Cypress tank. Go to the aquascaping forum and so a search for "Cypress" and it should pop up. It's WAY cool.

Well, Old Man made good on the Tootsie Rolls and we discussed proper trimming, visual depth and eye movement, prepping a scape for a photo shoot, and proper water change methods. We had a killer of a time.

Eye movement? Hey man, perhaps before I set up this 32 bow front you can toss me some pointers. I'm not going for showroom or competition quality, but I do want the scape to flow well. I'll bring what I have on paper so far on Monday.

Mudboots, definitely lets talk some technique before you set up. Alot of people tend to forget about eye movement in the set up. It's just like in art, you want the scape to pull the viewers focus to the focal point first, and then have something draw the focus throughout the design. Think of it as arranging a flower basket or a vase. Visual weight balanced throughout, a good focal point, and lines (real or imaginary) can create the right movement (visually) to make the scape entertaining and interesting...where you just sit and stare for hours...until your wife throws a dirty diaper at your head...
