Hello I'm a college kid from South USA and I got into fish keeping when I was in highschool. It's been an uphill battle in hobby with crazy mistakes around every corner but at the end of the day I enjoy it.

I have two aquariums
First one:
A five gallon, designed by Fluval, however I cut up the filter that comes with it to only include the sponge and made space for the heater in the filter compartment.
Tank has organic miracal grow topped with Carib sea gravel planted with vallisneria, glosso, rotala and frog bit.
It's home to a Betta and some ramshorn snails.

Second is a 29g with a Nicrew LED light, tetra 40g filter, air stone, and a heater.
Has the same subrate set up and the same plants as the five g with hydrophila corymbosa, Sagittarius, and bacoba carolina(I think).
It's home to a Pearl Gourami, a SAE, ramshorn snails.

Welcome to APC! Are you living in a dorm with your aquariums? I left my guppy tank at home when I started college, and didn't get back to the hobby for about 6 years.

Welcome, your tanks look good! You may want to remove the air stone in your 29g. The bioload is low, and the air stone will cause the tank to lose natural CO2. Your tanks are set up like Walstad tanks, and in this method we try to retain natural CO2.

I'm lucky enough to be paying rent to my parents while I go to school locally.
I've considered removing air stone however with out even a filter now (the amount of silt I have was to much for it.) the heater is unable to get enough water flow to heat the entire tank.
I've considered having the air stone only for night, getting a different filter and or a power head.

Edit: added a lid and 3 Cory cats to the 29g removed the filter.
