Beautiful! I've always wanted to do a fancy goldfish set up. What is the plant in back-right corner, is that some type of Anubias? I like your style of scaping too, simplistic, yet hardscape and plant placement seems well thought out.

Thank you. It is an Anubias type, but that is the only fake plant in the tank, and only until I can get my hands on a large real anubias (rare as hens teeth and about as expensive as them too lol) If I cant find anubias it will be replaced with some wood and more java fern

This is probably the best planted goldfish tank I've seen. We get questions about plants suitable with goldfish, please share your plant list and tell us what plants you have tried that didn't work.

Good luck finding the large anubias species. I occasionally see them for sale in aquarium stores here in the states, but I am guessing you are in Oz.

Thank you

The plants I've had success with: Anubias, Swords, Crypts, Standard java fern, Crested java fern, Needle leaf java fern, Val so far

Any type of moss is food to them lol

Beautiful!

I keep fancy goldfish too, whole tank is planted with Anubias and Bucephalandra.

What tanks size are you working with?

Any updates on your tank and how your fish are doing? Have you found the large Anubias?

This is an unconventional set up. Goldfish are not supposed to be with plants, as they are plant eater, and heavy waste load is a factory for algae.

I also started an unconventional planted tank set up with large cichlid which are not supposed to be plant friendly. I only tried Java fern, regular and Trident, attached to rock so cichlid cannot uproot. Java fern is said to be unappetizing, so no fish will eat them. It’s been set up for a month, so far so good, except that I had to net out broken leaf debris from time to time. I saw my herbivorous severums attempted to push and nip on the leaves, and spit out pieces. They seem to lose interest lately and the destructive activities have subsided.

How long have you set up your tank and have you observed any distructive behavior? I see that you use mostly tough texture plants, but still new growth from Anubias, Vals, sword and crypts can be tender and yummy to goldfish.

I have a feeling that the combination of less than tropical temperature water and the food preferences of goldfish put an end to this aquarium.

Goldfish and plants can be kept together, but doing that is a stretch., IMHO.
