For the java fern, you should wait till the leaf starts to die off. I usually wait till the leaf falls off the main plant then I take all the plantlets off. Also if you try to pull it off, you will probably rip holes in your java fern leaf. The tank looks real nice though, and maybe a few small fish like a small school of neon tetras would be nice. Good luck

I decided to do a few changes to my tank.

First off I added a new piece of driftwood that I had been soaking for weeks. I am not sure what piece I am going to keep in this tank just yet. I am going to start a new tank and only keep one of these pieces for this tank. Also I trimmed the Ambuila. I read that you can trim the tops and throw away the bottom. Figured I would try this because it overtook what little space I had. I attached the bundles I saved to the driftwood for now until they start to grow roots. I bought a Palm and put it in behind the driftwood to the right side. I moved the Cryptocoryne to the back next to the Wendtii to free up room for the driftwood. I put a big patch of Cuban Dwarf Baby Tears on the driftwood. I also added a plant that I found in a local river. It is growing out of the driftwood in the front.

I decided to get a fish today also. I had seen this species last time I was at the store and looked into it a bit. I ended up getting one today. If all goes well next time I go back I will get a few more.
African Leaf Fish

I read that this fish doesn't do well with other fish in the tank because they might become intimidated and not feed. This fish is also difficult to feed because it requires live fish or other live food. I was told it eats flake food from the store so we will see. Other then that I got a few new supplements. I will now be using Seachem Nitrogen, and Potassium to go along with Iron.

Your tank looks beautiful. The snail you showed in the picture is a Malaysian trumpet snail.

I had a few changes from week 5 to week 7. The riccia/driftwood grew a whole lot in size. The water chemistry changed a little allowing some algae to start growing. I don't really understand why this happend. The cuban dwarf pretty much died. Only plant death so far. The duckweed population spiked, I need to get rid of it because it now shades too much of my tank. The fish are doing great, all have gained many mm in size. Tomorrow I get a lot of test kits in the mail. I will post the readings. I am going to try to dose with some phosphorus. Also I have not added any trace elements thus far. Starting tomorrow I will dose with seachem N,P,K,Fe,trace. I got a copper test as well.
