Mini-L - 5th week

More lackluster growth from the HC. For the hardscape, I raised the stones higher and added about 1 cm more substrate.

Mini-M - 4th week

I tweaked the Ohko stones arrangement and raised it up a bit. Not much new UG growth this week.

Thanks schg!

Missed a week because of business around Christmastime. Here's the latest update...

Mini-L - 8th week

Some parts of the HC is growing really well, but most of it isn't. There's quite a bit of yellowing. I think the uneven slopes are causing some of the higher parts to dry out. I'll give this another week or two and then I'll just flood the tank if things don't improve.

Mini-M - 7th week

The UG is filling in really well now. Lots of new growth now that the roots had a chance to develop.

Thank you!

Since I bought my UG online, I'm not too sure if it was originally grown submerged or emersed. However, I was able to plant it emersed without any melting.

I'm only spraying it with dechlorinated water and not adding any fertilizer right now. The plants are getting all their nutrients from the Aquasoil. From what I've read, UG gets most of its nutrients from the water column and not its roots. Once the tanks are flooded I'll use my Pfertz fertilizers.

I do cover the tanks with Saran wrap to keep the humidity levels high (with holes to allow for some gas exchange).

Hope this helps!

You can definitely use all Amazonia II normal size substrates. I went with a topcoat of powder because I like the grain size in proportion to the tank. The two sizes got mixed up when I played around with the rock placement so my substrate is pretty much a mixture of the two now. It doesn't really matter IMO.

As for the wattage, the Archaea fixture on the Mini-L is 36W and the Solar Mini-M is 27W.

I'm definitely going to have to keep an eye on your progress with the UG, as I am planning on growing it emmersed in my 30c in AS as well. I will also be using Pfertz and pressurized CO2 when I fill the tank, so hopefully you have success as well.

I guess I should post a tank thread on this forum as well...lol

Thanks, schg! Sounds like your plans are similar to mine. If I can do it, it's pretty safe to say that anyone can. It just took a lot of reading. Good luck with your tank and definitely start a journal so we can follow the progress!
