Super newbies , so I chose Java fern for my goldfish tank. But recently I noticed this “hard-to-kill” is turning brown and splitting.
Is it normal and if not please advise how to fix it

Looks super healthy, with new spores at the tips "sprouting" into baby java fern plantlets. The brown fuzzy stuff is the roots of the new plantlets.

Thank you I am glad that it is not dying 🙂 is there anything that I should do if the new plant is growing bigger ? Does it detach by itself or need some human intervention ?

They eventually detach, but you can pull them off and attach to driftwood or rocks, etc. if you want.
