Hi,

The only answer for that is how much you want and of course in relation with some factors. Such as;

1. If it is a new tank u have to put as much as possible until the tank establishes. Later you can get them out.
2. You have to add enough nutrients including CO2 for your plants at all times.
3. You must have sufficient light for the plants you chose.
4. You must consider the growth rate, shading of the plants after some growth, trimming requirements and your free time to deal with it.
5. Last, depends on a aquascape layout you may have in your mind already.

So if you can answer all of the above than you may know how much plant you may have. For me I like Jungle look so I have uncountable quantity of plants and I have to spare at least 3 hours every sunday to keep my 32g on shape and dose lots of nutrients everyday. So I think, first u have to answer 5th question.

Yildrim has given you a good answer. I would add: 'it depends'. If you tell me you have 10 medium sized swords in your 29, I'd say you have too many, since they get huge. If you tell me you have ten stems of something like Rotala rotundafolia, I would say you have way too few. Ultimately, what do you think you want to grow? How do you want your tank to look like? And, how much time are you willing to spend on it?

Yup it definately depends on your personal tastes. If you are asking what is heavily stocked, medium stocked and lightly stocked planted tank, then I would say that when you can't see the wall, that's heavily stocked, when you see large amounts of the wall that's lightly stocked.

People may have 1 single species of plants, and it looks great. While others have 20 different plant varieties, and they still look great. Go with what looks good to you. The good thing about having alot of varieties, you can choose what you like later as you setup another aquarium, or rescape the existing tank.
