Default Java Fern Question

Hey, any one know what the hell is goin on... My JavaFern is Growing lil thing at the top of my leaves.... there's two lil roots and 2 leaves growing on each one. i thought the propagated through the rhizome ?????

They grow at the rhizome, but propagate through little plantlets like the one's you are observing. They sprout right out of the exisitng leaves. Some people have suggested that this happens more often when the mother plant is stressed - sort of a "better send off some kids to find a better place to live" response.

OK - What about little brown spots on Java Fern - I bought a nice sized one for cheap from a LFS, but these spots it came with have not really gone away. I have a few leaf-tip plantlets too.[/hijack]

These are sporangia. Ferns reproduce sexually via spores, as opposed to seeds.

oK , So what would send my java fern off in a panic ? It's currently growing on wood. the roots a t the bottom are HUGE! so i don't understand what's wrong ? and can i take the "kids" off.... i hate them.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread
The rhizome to a small Java Fern plant is beginning to turn red at one end then turn brown and spread through out the rhizome, is this normal or should I cut off the dying part?
