You can also check out Tri-City Tropicals, they have both new and refurbished fixtures at a good price. On the refurbished fixtures, for $5 you can change out the bulb (which is usually part actinic) for a bulb appropriate for plants. Try here: http://www.tricitytropicals.com/inde...n=Custom&ID=19

I see they no longer have an updated list for what they have refurbished, so I guess you have to call or email them. I have a refurbished 24" 65w Satellite w/ lunar light and it is great, I've had no problems with it and couldn't tell it wasn't new. It's also great only paying $5 for the correct bulb instead of $20+.

Thank you for your suggestions on Tri-city Tropicals, I went to their website and noticed that they didnt have much in stock on refurbished items, but i guess I will give them a call to see what they really have. It would be nice to stay under the $50 mark as I am a poor college student that has to work at Petco to support my aquatic habits! lol

Well I finally got my tank half set up, I had to move the 40Gallon stretch hex into a different room because the 28G planted tank was taking its spot. (goes with the living room better, she says). I got my substrate down a silica sand blasting sand. My light should be here shortly, a 24" 1x65watt 12k light, I found a replacement bulb for it that has a double spectrum CF of 64k and grow color, (not sure of temp color)

here is the link to the bulb

My filter that came with the tank doesnt seem to work so I am going to return it and get something different. Is the penguinbio-wheel 150 it will be going along just find than all of a sudden stop uptaking water. I figured maybe it was clogged or something, but I took it apart twice and nothing, its brandnew! I think I will go with an Aqua clear filter as thats my filter of choice.

Well its coming along. here are some pictures

Well I got my tank planted thanks to cs_gardener, if it was not for her this wouldn't have happened so quickly. I just want to say Thank you so much!

Its a little cloudy right after the plant scape, but I will take another one in the morning. I think I will make a new thread as well so I will have a thread to update the tank on.

Well here it is.... Comments please... if you see something that needs to be moved or any good suggestions please let me know.

Hey! I recognize those plants! It's looking very good, you've done some nice layering of leaf sizes and textures. Could you ease the wood over a bit to the left so it's not so nearly centered? Just nit-picking really, I like it a lot.

Thanks for the kind comments Catherine..... I will try and move the wood over a bit and see what it looks like. Again, I am very thankful for your hospitality. I noticed this morning everything kind of found its own place in the tank as far as overlaping and things spread out nicely as well. I had to turn the filter way down because it was pushing things around.

Well here is a diagram of my idea of my DIY CO2 system. Will it work?

You need a check valve in the CO2 line that allows CO2 to flow towards the tank, but stops anything from flowing back towards the bubble counter. If you get a brass check valve from Rex Grigg's website you will never regret it.
