Default pond versus aquarium plants?

Is there a difference between pond and aquarium plants? Are there some that are the same? My landscaping friend is starting to get into the pond business and said he can get me some large plants to help fill out my 90 gallon. Thanks!

There are some plants that do well in both aquariums and ponds. There are also some plants that will only do well in ponds because they need more light than we can provide inside, grow too big for aquarium use, prefer conditions outdoors rather than indoors (cooler temps, etc), only like their feet wet and everything else in the open air . . .

So see what plants your friend can get and then check to make sure they are appropriate for aquariums. The plantfinder (upper left corner of the page in the gold bar) is a good resource.

Alternanthera, Bacopa, certain lily species are among plants that are found in ponds & tanks. If you want a lot of one of these species, it may be cheaper to get a pond-ready pot & break it up.
