Default plant selection - comments?

hi i am starting a 50 gallon planted. i already have the filter, fluorite (natural color) and a big piece of driftwood at hand.

here's what i am intending to use as far as plants are concerned. any comments would be very welcome. i am aiming for a relatively easy maintenance tank that has good color, variety in terms of height, color, textures etc.

Hemianthus callitrichoides ('lawn' in the front areas of the tank)
Baby tears (near the driftwood)
Cryptocoryne wendtii (take up area towards the back of the tank)
Anubias Nana (take up space around the base of the wood
Java fern narrow (to attach on the wood)
Red Tiger Lotus (center piece type of plant)
Dwarf hair grass (near driftwood)

the driftwood will be placed on the side of the tank, while the red tiger lotus will dominate the middle area.
i purposely chose some plants that do not need HUGE amounts of light - crypts, anubias and java fern as the tiger lotus i've been told gets quite large and will be shading a lot of the bottom of the tank area. lighting is from a 36" hagen T5.

let me know what you guys think!

Choosing the HC is probably a mistake. How many watts is that fixture? HC prefers high light and you may not get the carpet effect your hoping for if there is not enough light. The Tiger Lotus shading out a large part of the tank is going to make things even harder for the HC.

I agree about the HC. Hooha's idea of Marsilea is a good one. You can also consider Elatine triandra, or even H. micranthemoides. Both of these latter will need trimming to keep them low, but they make real nice sods.

wow i really like the look of Elatine triandra. thank you for the recommendation.

what are your thoughts about dwarf hairgrass?

i think i need some overall less demanding plants in terms of lighting. i don't really want to invest in expensive CO2 set ups and what not. i don't mind spending some $$ on root tabs and supplements and what not (which i was advised is something crypts like)

Eliocharis parvula will work under lower light and root tabs....but you'll need a good portion of it and/or patience for it to fill out a 50 gallon without high light and CO2
