Any suggestions? 2.6 gallon tank with amazon sword plant a Betta, pleco, neon tetra and cory catfish. Treated with medication, salt and currently running at 83degrees with an air stone. What else can I do?

Re: Ich

Just keep keep up with the treatment. It'll take about 3-4 week to wipe the ich clean.

Thanks! Gonna keep it up. Betta died last night. I don’t understand how fish survive this before the first round of treatment can work. I started at the first signs. He didn’t make it until the 4 days when the ich drop off happens. This is so infuriating. Looks like I’m losing a tetra now. Worst parasite ever!

Hmm. Maybe the betta die of other reasons.. Ich is usually very curable.

My tank was doing well until they all had ich one morning. And they were absolutely covered in it. The tank sits on my desk so I see them all day long. Just strange how fast they got it. And from nowhere. The only thing that changed was the pleco. And they are super tiny. Possibly had it and I couldn’t see. Thanks petco... ugh.

"worst parasite ever" ... One day you will long for something easy to recognize and treat like ich! There's so many worse fish diseases that you either can't identify, or can't treat effectively.

Well, ich just wiped out my whole tank and I did every treatment possible starting on the first day I saw it. So I hope I never see anything worse. LOL

One problem with very small tanks, like yours, is the speed at which things can go wrong. Large tanks are stable because there is so much water that changes of any kind take a lot of time, but a 2.6 gallon tank doesn't have that stability. That doesn't mean they aren't good tanks to use, just that their small size makes keeping them stable difficult, and that can result in the type of problem you had.

Re: Ich

Yeah, you need a 10G tank to keep fish.
A 2.6G tank is good for shrimp and snails if you want to keep it around.

Re: Ich

So sorry. Dont give up; just learn to recognize symptoms sooner. Usually fish with ich will scratch or "flash" off rocks, wood, etc for a couple days before the ich spots have grown big enough to see. Also watch for more-rapid-than-normal breathing rate.
