Brown water in filter

Hello,

My tank is 300 Liters. I have a filter e1502 jbl (1500L each hour). Each time i clean the filter, the water is brown.
All medias are brown. I would like to know if is the same color for everybody ?
One time, i changed all the water in the filter and cleaned some medias but the water become brown again.

Bacterias colors are brown ?

Thanks

Re: Brown water in filter

Brown is normal. Poop, bacteria, food, algae, biofilm, etc. all of the organics in the tank end up becoming detritus which settles in your substrate or gets sucked into the filter. If you clean your substrate you should notice the same brown organic matter.

To be clear, detritus should be a light-medium brown. If it's a dark brown that's something else (algae or other). It should also be flaky and small particles kinda like disintegrated toilet paper. Hope that clears things up
