Hi everyone...

Have some cloudy water in the new tank...mostly due to dust from planting. I am running a filstar XP3 with the foam in the bottom containers and ceramic media in the top (along with the white floss pad)...

How can I clean this up? Is there a way to run Diatomaceous earth in a filstar xp3? Has anyone done this?

Is there another filter (inexpensive) that you could use to clear water up on occasion?

How long has it been cloudy? It should settle/get filtered out in no time. I just went through my tank this weekend and it cleared up in an hour or so.

Are you using the microfiltration pad that came with your Rena? Mine does wonders. If you don't have any you should be able to buy sheets of filter floss at your LFS that you could cut to fit. They do a great job.

Crypts spiralis, ciliata, balansae and wendtii bronze and red, pennywort, wisteria and java fern and moss.

You can get a Magnum with the water polisher filter, use the polisher a few days whenever needed and then go back to the regular filter sleeve. I myself think it is a very good idea to have more than one filter going at a time in case one of them has a mechanical breakdown.

I actually have another XP3 coming today as a backup that will run in the tank on a lower flow basis. I will look into the Magnums.

Update....

Running two XP3's now...one is kinda noisy though...side note...ok the water is still cloudy...seems to be getting a bit worse although that may just be my eyes...

Runnning the micro pads that came with the filstar....still no success...think the dust is very small or maybe its algae haze?
