I was out shopping for the parts of what was going to be my new homemade light hood when I saw halogen bulbs and remembered I have a couple of lamps I do not use and I could dismantle to adapt to my existing hood.
The only concern that popped to mind was the fact that I remember them being very hot, I do not know about the spectra of the bulbs either.
The halogens are typically not used because of the heat they give out. However, I do know that some Reef hobbyists use them to highlight the color over specific corals etc. They do have chillers though.
For a DIY hood, I would stick with power compacts or regular flourescents. :D
Thanks Art! I will most definitely do something about lighting.
Some of Amano's smaller setups use halogen spotlights. But heat is usually a concern unless you use them as pendants.
