Are you sure? In the right conditions this will grow out of the top of a 24" tall tank!

well, the scape I want to do will have tons of dwarf hairgrass, and I wanted it to grow into the giant.. couldn't I trim the tops? lol it will be in a 75.
would any other plant that would work with the scape I described?

I'm a big fan of Cyperus helferi. You will need a good bit of it though as it does not spread by runners.

What about Isoetes species? Those have a similar look.

well, GMOP, I was hoping to get a plant with the same color as hairgrass, but I guess I might have to change my plans..
So you can't trim giant hairgrass at the top where you want it?
doesn't Amano have a few pics of scapes with a tall, hairgrass-like plant? He keeps those plants laying a bit on top..
Gumby, I have never came across the Isoetes species. If anyone has a pic, I would def. consider it!

The gianthairgrass is stiffer than most and stands straight up and down. IMO it's not very attractive. I prefer something that lays just slightly on the top of the tank. Another really nice one is Blyxa aubertii, which is a darker green.

ok, I got some Eleocharis vivipara at the lfs for dirt cheap.. lol

does this plant look good to anyone, or is it a junker?? thanks

Amano uses it a lot. It looks unruly, but if trimmed well, it is a sort of organized chaos and looks quite striking.
