Default Another Idea

I know there have been a lot of different ideas thrown around on what the club can do, and I realize SCAPE is still very tentative.

The Santa Ana Zoo is designing a new exhibit that is a sort of interpretive center for the Amazon basin, some at the zoo think it would be really cool to include a fishtank but we don't really have any staff other than me with any knowledge of fish or aquariums. When the club gets more established would some in SCAPE be interested in doing this as a demo tank and maintaining it? I am just putting out feelers to see if this would ever work....it would have to be maintained by SCAPE. Thoughts??

How big would the tank be? If its not a huge tank then i think that maintenance wouldn't be so bad after its established.....I might be able to pitch in some time

Sounds like a great project. Beginner here, so I'm no help.

I would help and probably can get a couple more folks who can stop by once or twice a week.

What size tank or tanks are we talking about?
What sort of budget for materials or will we need to donate plants and such?
Is there already a list of fish they want or can we help pick some out?

When you say maintain the tank, will the zoo be able to handle regular feeding of the fish?

Are donations to the zoo tax deductible? (Could help if we need to find sponsors/donations for expensive items.)

That sounds like a fun project to do, but I'm very busy recently. I could stop by once a month to help.

Cool, that gives me a good idea to start with. For a long time I thought it would be awesome to have a blackwater biotope tank with leaf litter and lit by spotlights, full of branches and altum angels, kinda like the pictures in some of Amano's books about South America....but I have since moved to reality and was thinking something like 40g would probably be the most appropriate. Some ideas for fish were things like pencils, tetras, apistos, etc. and there are plenty of South American plants, but I am open to other ideas. Right now this is all just an idea and there are no plans at all. Everything could be pretty automated and weekly or bi-weekly maintenance would definitely suffice. I would certainly hope the zoo could handle feeding.

Yes, donations are fully tax deductible, but there may a budget for it.

In the upcoming weeks I will see if this is something the management staff would go for and what budget there is, we'll see what happens. Thanks!
