Default Fix for a noisey Rena XP3

Have a 3 year old Rena XP3. Works great but it's been recently becoming very noisey. Ecspecially after I clean it out. Sounds like the impeller or magnet is rattling. Any suggestions? I tried calling Rena but they suggested buying a new impeller ($26). Wondering if anybody else had some suggestions? I might buy the some new bearings/bushings and see if that helps.

Thanks,
Tony

Would love to hear if you come up with an answer. My XP3 has always had a noticeable hum. I did purchase a new impeller over the holidays. It seemed to quiet it down for a while. This last weekend, after my filter cleaning (every 6-8 weeks), the hum had returned.

I know many folks get completely quiet XP3s, but mine isn't one of them. The filter is in a open-backed cabinet, I throw a sizable blanket over the top of it, and I can still hear the hum in the evenings from a couple rooms away in my "open" Florida home.

I keep thinking about going with that "other" recommended vendor ...but I'm just too frugal and can always find something else to buy instead.

Brian.

Stupid question but, why suffer with noisy filters? I have been running Eheim classic cannisters for >10 years and have never replaced a single one, nor had any noise problems. Over the years I have replaced the occasional impeller and shaft (in a filter I bought used with a tank) but not much more. They cost a little more in the beginning but just flat work and keep working. They are dead silent, particularly in a stand. The rated flow is less than the Renas but I get by with a single 2217 on a 125g with no problems at all....

Just my $0.02.
