Re: My 54 litre (14 gallon) Aquarium

Aquarium: free from a friend, worth about $30.00 to $40.00 (I'll say $40.00).
Lighting: $24.00 including tubes.
Substrate: old gravel from another tank, worth approximately $10.00, and soil from my garden.
Plants: mostly cuttings from my other tanks and ponds, worth about $90.00 (I'm just guessing here). If I had bought new plants for this tank, I would have bought much cheaper varieties!
Animals: small invertebrates which came for free on the plants.

Total: $164.00 Australian Dollars.

Here is some information about the tank, and a list of the plant species:

Set up date: 23rd May 2005
Tank dimensions: 60cm x 30cm x 30cm (24" x 12" x 12").
Lighting: two 40 watt Cool White flourescents and sunlight.
Filtration/water movement: none.
CO2 injection: none.
Fertilisers: none.
Substrate: 2.5cm (one inch) of topsoil with 2.5cm (one inch) of 3mm gravel over the top.
Animals: Common Pond Snails (two different varieties), very small, see-through Ramshorn Snails, one large brown Ramshorn Snail, blackworms, flatworms, Moina, Cyclops, small round ostracods, large kidney-shaped ostracods.
Plants at the time of photographing: Azolla filliculoides, three different Chara species, Crassula helmsii, Didiplis diandra, Egeria sp., Eleocharis acicularis, Eleocharis sp., Glossostigma elatinoides, Hemianthus micranthemoides, Hydrotriche hottoniiflora, Hygrophila difformis, Landoltia punctata, Lilaeopsis brasilensis, Lilaeopsis polyantha, Limnophila sessiliflora, Marsilea drummondii, Myriophyllum simulans, Nitella sp., Nymphaea sp., Ottelia species, Ricciocarpus natans, Rotala rotundifolia, Utricularia gibba subspecies exoleta, Vallisneria spiralis, Java Moss.
