Description: The Magnum 350 provides mechanical and chemical filtration with powerful performance and easy setup and restart capability for aquariums up to 55 gallons (freshwater) and 40 (saltwater). The two stage filter can quickly and easily convert to a quick-clean micron water polisher. The Magnum has a self priming, bottom mounted sealed motor with a flow rate of 350gph.

Mechanical filtration is provided by the replaceable Rite-Sized Foam Sleeve. The foam sleeve is a dense, high porosity prefilter to trap dirt and debris. Chemical filtration is provided by a Carbon/Media Container packed with carbon to remove dissolved organic impurities.

The Magnum 350 easily converts from everyday 2-stage filtration to quick-clean micron water polishing using the pleated Micron Cartridge. Ideal for quick-clean duty, the reusable Micron Cartridge has 320 square inches of surface area. It efficiently removes microscopic particles, eliminating the need for diatomagic powder.

To add biological filtration simply connect outlet of the Magnum 350 to a Bio-wheel Pro (not included).

The filter includes a Rite-Size Foam Sleeve, Carbon/Media Container, Black Diamond Premium Activated Carbon, a reusable pleated Micron Cartridge, high-efficiency intake strainer, tube retainer bracket, split-flow diffuser, and combined 10ft of tubing for 5/8" intake and 5/8" outtake.

Pros: Multiple filtration options, good flow rate, can adjust flow
Cons: A bit noisy, needs cleaned frequently

I run two of these filters on my 75g. One of them has the medial chamber filled with bioballs. This filter was used as a stand alone CO2 reactor for a long time, hence the bioballs. I\'ve only cleaned this filter once in 6 months.

The other filter has the media chamber filled with floss which is quite good at keeping the water clear. The floss does need changed every 10-14 days but it really isn\'t much of an issue for me.

This filter includes the micron cartridge which enables it to polish the water with the use of Diatom powder. Very effective at removing Green Water.

While I gave it a con as being noisy the noise isn\'t much of a problem at first but gets worse once the impeller begins to wear. It is hardly noticeable if mounted in an enclosed stand. I would not use it in a bedroom or in an open type stand.

Pros: Good volume in the canister
Cons: Tends to be messy and leak if not put together properly during maintenance

The volume allows me to use a micron cartridge and fill the remaining inch around the cartridge with the ceramic pellets and rings to increase my bio filtration. I have another filter on a 55g, so this is supplemental. I'm just big on those ceramic bits.

I run a prefilter CO2 reactor, which had a different size tubing, so that was a hassle. The plumbing connections are great where you can take them apart and easily clean the chamber, but the ones that are supposed to screw into the tubing above and below where they clamp together are not very reliable, and the hose slips off them if pulled sufficiently hard.

The lid also has this rubber ring that if not placed properly will cause a pinhole leak. This will empty about 7-8 inches of your tank. I ended up with about 20 gallons in my apartment, my fault but the HOT Magnum has a better type of lid that I'd much rather have on this filter.

I'd go with a RENA or another larger volume canister for about the same price if I had to do it again, but the Micron cartridges are definitely the best at clearing up cloudy, muddy, or green water. That was why I got this one, and it did a good job. So that is a reason to choose this filter. Also like the guy said above you can turn this into a CO2 reactor quite easily.
