I think the surface wave could be more flattering. Look to see what happens if you flip the wave horizontaly in photoshop so that it comes from right. It gives some return movment, countering the right movement of the rasbora school.

Also, I think the wave is too big and distracting.

What is the thought behind the surface ripples anyway? to lend some visual interest to an otherwise plain area of the photo?

A question for the artist: Did you settle on a white background from the beginning or did you experiment with a number of shades before selecting white?

Jay Luto, HanshaSuro: oh...... sorry!! I did't record down the step when i took the photo. But, the sectrets of the white background that i use the flash project to the wall. Use a fast shutter speed(1/200) to freeze the fishes and small aperture (6-9) to capture more light. In addition, use a fan to blow the tank surface let it be a ripple.

The tank config as follow:

Tank size: 14"L X 9"W X 10"H - 20L
Lighting: T5 8W X 5 (8 hours per day)
Substrate: ADA Aqua Soil Amazonia
Fertilzer: ADA Step1, ADA Bright K
Plant: Heminanthus micranthemoides, Junior sword plant
Fish: Spotted Rasbora (Rasbora maculata)

Simple but attactive.
Only the fish is not position in the white side, otherwise is perfect.
Small tank is hard to manage especially to control the quality of water.
Too strong light will make algae grow, however low lighting is not sutiable for this tank.

It is really a small tank but great works.

I love the Maculata rasbora, I personally have Brigittae rasboras in my 7 gallon and hope to get some good pics of that soon.
