A lot of the problems with stains come down to the wood and how soft, open pore areas soak up lots and hard, closed pore area don't. I haven't figured out the best way to control that. Still learning.
You can use a pre-stain conditioner that will help even out the stain. It should be located with the stain and it really helps when using pine.
Nice work.

Have tried that it the past with mixed results.

Finished the poly varnish and moved the stand into the house. And just in time; carpenter bees are out, and I found the start of a hole that one was boring into the plywood back. The little buggers!

Now to start the work of moving the 40 gallon long tank out of the way and setting up the 75.

Any chance for some updated pics? I'd love to see the stand with the tanks in it. I need to make something similar for my condo. I also have a 40 breeder and 75 I need to make a stand for and what you've done here was awesome.

Thanks!
