When I was 14 years old, I tried adding some lawn fertilizer (solid granules from a large bag) to my tank and the plants produced completely white new growth. It looked like extreme iron dificiency, but at that time there were no chelated iron fertilizers available.
Now you have access to chelated iron compounds. Try some and see if the plants green up again.
