The topic for February's meeting of the Dallas/Fort Worth Aquatic Plant Club will be an overview of what other clubs are doing.

It would be interesting to hear what happens during the meetings, how long the meetings last, what activities take place outside of the meetings, how many members attend, how far apart the members live and anything else that might be of interest.

All the information is meant to give a better idea of the clubs and the hobby outside Texas.

Please respond to me with a PM.

Thanks!

GWAPA meetings take place every 4th Saturday of the month at a member's home at 1:00 pm. Usually the first half hour to an hour is spent chatting and looking at their tanks. Then we have a topical discussion. This past month we had our first guest speaker come and talk about carnivorous plants. Afterward we have a mini-auction of plants and aquaria related items of which the club takes 25% of the proceeds. As of late we've had about 15 members showing up to meetings. That's higher than our usual 8-9 or so and we aim to keep it that high in the coming months. :)

Our meetings are scheduled for the third Saturday of every month at 1:00. The first meeting is on 2/18. It looks like five people will attend. We are not incorporated. (I am curious how other clubs are handling this issue.) GWAPA has given us a hand and I think it would be to great to promote interaction and support between the clubs.

Our first meeting is going to focus on getting the club up and running and what to do with our website.

Niko,
Good thread. While I'd like to add to this, SCAPE is still working on its first meeting, much like DVAGA. Already working on bulk orders for ferts, substrates (Soilmaster). Also in talks with a lfs to host an aquascaping demonstration open to members and other interested parties.

For NASH, we mainly have one meeting on the second Saturday of each month. The meeting typically run from 2-4pm. Of course, sometimes there'll be variations due to weather, schedule conflict, etc.....

The meeting is held mainly for the hobbyists to engage in friendly conversation regarding aquarium and its related topics. Our main focus, though, is on the Nature Aquarium(no brainer there since our club is Nature Aquarium Society of Houston;) ).

Members are also encouraged to call upon the officers or other members for any advice or help they may need. So sometimes we hang out and talk about these things.

We have a growing membership list, ranging from extremes in the Houston and the vicinity. Basically, people from everywhere in Houston.

We are currently still undergoing some basic club rule including logo design and forum design. More fun stuff to come!

At PAPAS (Pittsburgh Area Planted Aquarium Society), we meet the first Sunday afternoon of the month at either a member's house or at the excellent All Oddball Aquatics.

We've generally had roundtable discussions on the usual topics and more recently, more formal presentations. We always have a bunch of plants to swap and have begun requiring a 'donation' for each bag bought to raise some money for the club.

We usually have 8 or 9 people show for each meeting but about a dozen in the club.

We'll soon set up or rescape a tank at a member's house. Cool!

AAPE(Arizona Aquatic Plant Enthusiasts)----We meet on the 3rd Sunday of every month. Usually at a members house. Rotating to whoever volunteers.

Topics are usually decided by a loose voting system on issues or interests that we are all having at the time. Topics are discussed via our forum at http://aape.naturalaquariums.com/index.php

We currently have about 30 members, of which about 10-12 show up per meeting. Travel distance from central Arizona can vary quite a bit. We even have members that live over 2 hours away. We just started our club in December of 2005, and its growing quite well.

Next meeting topic is on photography. Plans are in the works for a possible full aquascape soon(I cant wait).
