I decided to setup another larger tank in order to satisfy my collectoritis.

Setup details:
Tank - 48" x 13" x 18" AGA 55gallon tank
Pressurized CO2 with glass diffuser
27 L new Amazonia Aquasoil
CFS 500 canister from AquaTraders
Bacter 100
Finnex Ray 2 48" LEDhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008K3DO9I/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1365794907&sr=8-1&pi=SL75

I've been doing a water change every other day at this point. Ill get on with the photos.

What fauna are you planing on?
What fauna are you planing on?
Amano shrimp
Oto. cats
Maybe "Xenotoca" eiseni

My main goal for this tank is to grow lots of healthy plants and try lots of different species.
The schedule provided is based on quite some plants from the start. Try keep that in mind, so dosing may be 1/3th of the schedule.
How is the schedule working out? Doing reduced dosing because you have not that much plants or full dosing? Any problems so far?

I reduced my dosing. But otherwise the schedule is working well. I have a small bit of algae, but haven't added any Oto. Cats or amano shrimp yet. I do notice a bit of BBA on my CO2 diffuser.

Should I up my bps on the co2? Or is this a flow problem?
Filter is 500gph.
Still on a weekly 30% water change schedule.

I've been dosing once a week after the change.
I add the following.
  • 3mL of CSM+B solution, which is a 1g/mL solution.
  • 5mL of Macros (1 molar solution of KNO3, .06 molar solution KH2PO4) (e.g. 100g of KNO3 and 8g KH2PO4 mixed into 1L H2O)

I also added a few more species of plants on 5/8/13
  • Limnophila aromatica
  • Hyptis lorentziana
  • Hygrophila brown/thai
  • Hemianthus callitrichoides
  • Alternanthera reineckii 'ocipus'
  • Rotala singapore
  • Lilaeopsis 'mini'

On 5/18 I added the following fauna
  • 5 x Otocinclus
  • ~8 x Red Sakura Shrimp, Neocaridina Heteropoda

The ADA schedule Yo-han provided(not listed in thread) is a good starting point for maintenance and dosing guidelines. Its hard to come by all the ADA products in the schedule, so I used their dosing schedule as a guide for similar compounds that are more readily available near me. Please keep in mind, I am guessing that all ADA molar concentrations are quite low and have been dosing very minimal amounts into the water column. I am really trying to keep the algae down to a minimum and not have to dose every day.

Does the Bacter 100 speed up the cycle time? Is it worth it?
Even though I used the Bacter 100, I still waited a month before adding livestock.
This is my first time using ADA products, so I don't have a tank that I can compare where I used Aquasoil but did not use the Bacter 100. All in all, I'm impressed with the ability of the Aquasoil and the LED fixture to grow plants.

It's really not that expensive to add Bacter 100. ~19$

I noticed about half my sakura shrimp have died. I wonder what is killing them. ?

The Oto. cats seem fine. Plants all appear healthy too.

Recently, I have noticed that things have slowed down a bit. The Rotala rotundafolia seems to continue to grow like a weed, but the other plants seem to get really dark green and red leaves. Some of these plants are new to me, so I am not sure the if the growth is normal or the result of a deficiency. I think I will keep the tank in its current maintenance cycle and see if I notice any difference in the coming weeks.
Did you uproot any plants?
