I did not find another announcement of the AGA convention, so apologies if I am double-posting.

A message for some of the convention last-minute-registration straggler
types (you know who you are!)...

The Sheraton website where you register for the hotel room notes that the
rate is only guaranteed through September 9th. That means you won't get
the room at $99 per night, and the AGA won't get credit for you staying
there (this turns out to be important with a small convention like ours).

So if you've put it off until now, please go and register today. At least
go get your hotel room taken care of. :)

If this is the first e-mail you've gotten about our convention, it's
November 10-12, 2006 in San Francisco. We've got a great line-up of seven
speakers, including Dr. Ole Pedersen speaking on submersed culture, Troels
Andersen of Tropica presenting aquascapes in nature all over the world
from Greenland to Australia, Dr. George Batten of Seachem (we don't know
what he's talking on yet, but we're sure it involves water chemistry),
Eric Do covering freshwater invertebrates, Ricky Cain (with Luis Navarro)
giving an aquascaping workshop, and AGA's own Dorothy Reimer demonstrating
her gardening methods that she's been using before many of us were born.

We've also got a field trip on Friday to the Monterey Bay Aquarium that's
almost sold out but has a few spots left. There's a banquet on Saturday
that, in addition to our awards ceremony, will pit three people against
each other in the first-ever Iron Aquascaper challenge. Finally, on
Sunday we've got an all-day aquatic plant auction. Anyone may show up to
buy stuff at the auction. But if you're a convention attendee, you may
also bring plants and plant-related items to sell.

Hope to see you there!

Less than two months remain until our big AGA convention in San Francisco the weekend of November 10th, and less than a month is left to book your hotel room!

Just this week, Ray "Kingfish" Lucas has agreed to bring and auction dry goods from his cadre of sponsors, including a 46-gallon bowfront aquarium. At a lot of conventions, the aquarium is sitting there on display with very little hope of being crammed into your luggage on the plane. But this year, there will be a magic envelope that turns itself into an aquarium at your local fish store.

Anyone can come by and bid in the auction on Sunday (tell your friends in the Bay Area). But registered convention attendees may also BRING plants and plant-related items to sell! The split is a generous 70% for the seller. You must be an AGA member to attend the talks, but your $20 dues also buys you a subscription to our 44-page full-color quarterly journal, "The Aquatic Gardener."

Sound interesting? Visit our convention website at AGA: Annual Convention for more details, including registration information. Or, download a trifold brochure here:

Please help us spread the word about the convention by printing flyers and/or bookmarks and taking them to your local fish store or local club meeting:

Greetings from the 2006 Aquatic Gardeners Convention!

Just a month left before the big convention in San Francisco, and only
a few days remain to book your hotel room -- the guaranteed convention
rate of $99 goes away on Friday the 13th. If you were putting it off
until the last minute, THIS IS THAT LAST MINUTE.

AGA: Annual Convention

In previous messages, we've told you about the seven great speakers
we're hosting (including Troels Andersen and Ole Pedersen). We've
also gushed about the now sold-out field trip on Friday. And we've
pushed our vendor room and giant Sunday aquatic plant auction (bidding
is open to anyone -- tell your friends!). This time, we'd like to say
a few words about the banquet:

On Saturday night, after all the talks are done, enjoy a meal with a
table full of like-minded plant enthusiasts, and over dessert, be the
first to see the winners of the 7th annual AGA Aquascaping Contest
announced. Most of this year's panel of judges will be present at the
convention, and may be coaxed into talking about the entries they
found most remarkable. Learn what exactly was going through their
heads as they ranked 120 aquariums. If you bring a USB memory
stick or similar device with you, we'll do our best to get you a copy
of the whole contest right after the banquet!

Also during the banquet will the first-ever IRON AQUASCAPER challenge.
Folks from SFBAAPS are busily gathering tanks, substrates, plants and
contestants to face off in a head-to-head LIVE competition! We have
no idea what mayhem will ensue. Stay tuned.

Finally, it's looking like we'll actually have convention T-shirts
available for purchase this year. If you are interested, and have an
unusual size requirement, please e-mail your preference to us at
convention@aquatic-gardeners.org

Hope to see you in November!
