Akadama?

I have heard of people using Akadama as a substrate in their planted aquaria. There is a bonsai shop very near where I live, and I'm thinking about picking some up for my 120g tank in the future. Its quite cheap.

Can anyone share their experiences with the stuff? I've gathered that it is similar to Aquasoil in texture and composition, though I assume without all the nutrients.
