i wouldnt use it, plants use ammonia for growth so any ammonia buildup in the tank should be taken care of by the plants (they like ammonia better'n NO3). only keep it if the ammonia is consistently too high.
heh, speaking of consistently too high ammonia levels.... this woman came into our shop the other day and complained to me about the bad smell in her goldfish tank. i tested the water and there was more then 8ppm of ammonia in there! apparently she had about 15 full sized goldfish and a large koi in a 55 gallon tank. unfortunately no plants
