The defining characteristics as you can see in the pictures, is that there is a white vein that goes right down the middle of the leaves. The 3 pictures above are of young specimens, the white vein becomes more bright/wider and from that main vein, white "fork" lines go outward laterally across the leaf when the plant itself becomes older and more mature.

Well, one of my friends in Indonesia has kept them for 1-2 years and they're stable. But others kept them and only last for months before they turning back to normal.

As I recall these fella' aren't cheap. From what I seen in the FS/Trade forum, they went up to double digits(don't remember the actual price) and they sold were considerably fast.

I'm not surprised! I haven't seen one with colouring as distinct as this before, and I do tend to buy up pretty much every Anubias that I see. I am willing to pay, of course.

Just remember that this type of yellow markings on a plant are caused by a virus, and this virus has been known to jump, not only to other plants, but to other species within a system. (sometimes growers have problems with it infecring an entire greenhouse). I know some people enjoy the look, but they are sick plants. Buyer beware.

I'd be curios to your source of this information, as there are all sorts of plants with variegation of all sorts and patterns some yellowish some pale white, there are lots of shades. This is a not a virus I am pretty certain unless you wish to site your source, I will have my reservations with your statement.

Do you have any sources for this information? Just curious. I want to read more about it. I've had them (stardust) for years now and had not seen it jump to other plants or other plant species within any aquariums that I have them in. Is it the same as the variegated water sprite? More information/source on this virus please.

This was personal information from a commercial grower in Thailand. I believe I have also discussed it with Claus Christensen. I was unable to find an internet source that specifically talked about viral infection in Anubias, but here is one about it in Camillias:

If you are interested, I can post photos of virally infected plants (and their normal counterparts) in the wild in Taiwan. I'm on my iPad right now, so I'd have to wait until tomorrow to post them.

I believe the white-veined version of Shinnersia rivularis arose when it was being cultivated with the white-green Hygrophila difformis. Am I correct there, Karen?

If so, I suppose the same kind of thing could happen with other plants.

Not positive about that one, Cavan. Though I think I've heard something about it.

Here are the photos I mentioned last night of the virus-infected plants in Taiwan. You can see the non-infected plants near them. Clearly the virus-infected plants are more robust. They also appeared more insect resistant. There were many more holes in the leaves of the infected plants.

I'm wondering if this is what's happening to my Acmella repens and Nelsonia canescens. They are both growing emersed right next to Hygrophila difformis 'variegated'.

On the A. repens, the leaves are showing noticeable variegation. All leaves seem to have the same appearance, including the newer ones near the tip of the stem.

On the N. canescens, the leaves aren't necessarily variegated, but i have noticed a few leaves near the bottom of the stem that are basically completely white. The leaves are very sturdy and don't seem to be wilting/dying.

interesting! I wonder if the virus is more active in an emerged stage than the submerged stage. I have nothing like it happening on my submerged plants...yet. My anubias 'stardust' has been in my tank for over 2 years now and nothing has happened on the other plants surrounding them. Likewise for my H. difformus tank. I will try and see if I can get them to do the same in an emerged tank set up. This should be interesting.
