Hey,
I made an aquarium rack consisting of four 10 gallons draining to a 29G sump tank at the bottom. The sump has a compartment of media and then flows to another compartment where the heater and pump are.

I thought this setup would be good because the sump would filter and I only need one heater to heat all the tanks. To my surprise, there's a bit of heat loss going on. The 10G tanks are reading 70F while the sump where the pump is 80F, by the media where the draining water is it's 70F like the 10G tanks.

Any trick to deal with the heat loss?

I did a little more investigating. The bottom temperature of the sump is 70F. The top is 80F. So the pump is pulling in 70F water. I'll have to make a platform to lift the pump up and possibly buy a new heater that's fully submersible to place at the bottom.
