Hi

I have the standard rectangle 55 gallon tank with (4x65) 260 WATTS of light from Coralife Freshwater Aqualight. I use Eco - Complete as the substrate also. I have a 20 lb Co2 tank just saving up money to get out and get a regulator, checkvalve, reactor and stuff...

I found some driftwood in my back lake and found some nice pieces... I have java moss currently groing on one of the pieces of driftwood, but other than that nothing...

I need some help and ideas in what kind of plants and organization I should use, please help anyone...

question has been asked lots of times. read thru aquascaping and you will find what you are looking for. just remember dont copy someone elses work. this is your tank and should be filled with some of your own ideas. then set it up and post pics and the folks here will help you fine tune it.

I would recommend you get an general ide of what your looking for. Using just driftwood, maby rocks, a mounds shaped or trianguler shaped aquascaoe and so forth. Try putting this together in your tank, then post some pictures so that everybody can give your an oppinion on what your next move should be.

The fact of the matter a dutch style tank will be impossible to do in a 55gallon. At least as far as my mind can see. I think getting some branchy wood and trying to accentuate the length of the tank would be good. Look at tsunami's 20gallon long and maybe ryuken's tanks for some pointers. I am sorry to say that i think you should lower the amount of light on the tank. 260watts over 12 inches of width is a lot.

First of all, I would take out the piece currently in your 55g. It's too straight and rigid.

Second of all, why don't you try positioning the piecesin the aquarium and play with it for an hour? Just read up on some basic guidelines that are all over the archives. Don't bunch all those branchy pieces together. Keep them seperate as to not make them too complicated. Use them in odd numbers (3 or 5, etc). There are three main layout "shapes" that one can use: concave, convex, and mound. You can find more information about them here:

When you get something you like, just post it here, and we will try to help fine tune it. :)
