i'm getting ready to cultivate some BBA and staghorn for an art project. the bucket is going to stay in the studio with a DIY CO2 system, and i was going to put it by the window so we wouldn't waste electrical bills on a light 24/7. do you think it'll get too cold? i live in the midwest US but i won't specify my location any more. my deadline is in a couple months so i need it to grow sorta fast. the BBA is slightly more important than the staghorn, although i'd like to have both. i really don't want to buy another heater, and i'm not sure where i'd find one since this bucket is really small, so i'd probably just have to put it further inside with a light, which i also kind of don't want to do.

Light and nutrients are needed to grow algae. As long as it's above 70F, you should be fine. The trick is to grow exactly BBA & Staghorn. It's easier to visit a friend's tank or pet store to harvest the algae you're after.

yeah, i don't really have any fishtank friends and the petstores around here just have cyanobacteria in their tanks, which they probably aren't going to give me anyways. its 44F today so i'll probably just have to pick up a heater or something. thanks!

Are you growing this outside or inside? Just ask. People will give away algae.
