I think using cedar would be risky. The wood of cedar and other conifers can contain resins potentially toxic to plants and animals. Even my friends that keep herps won't consider using it as bedding for this reason. Plus, conifer and other soft woods tend to degrade quickly when submerged, so there's that problem as well.
