Will charcoal remove tanins from the water? If not will anything? I have some wood i setup in a large tank that is changing the color of the water. Its too much to just boil it its fills half of a 125.

I don't think the charcoal will do enough for you to notice anything when you're dealing with tanins.
About all you can do is wait for it to leech out with water changes, or soak it in something like your bathtub (if you don't have someone else in the house who would mind ;)).

Did you soak the wood before putting it into the tank?

Since it is to large for a pot soaking it in the tub/garbage can will help. Also pouring boiling water over it will help to sterlize it.
