Will charcoal remove tanins from the water? If not will anything? I have some wood i setup in a large tank that is changing the color of the water. Its too much to just boil it its fills half of a 125.
I don't think the charcoal will do enough for you to notice anything when you're dealing with tanins.
About all you can do is wait for it to leech out with water changes, or soak it in something like your bathtub (if you don't have someone else in the house who would mind ).
Activated carbon will work for light tannin stained water, but if you have new wood in your tank the only thing that's going to help is large and frequent water changes.
