The ideal temperature for algae to grow is 27.5 Celsius / 81.5 Fahrenheit
Stay as below that temperature as possible and it will do wonders for your tank. Lighting of course is key. Stay away from fluorescent lighting if possible. The spectral wavelength distribution of most common fluorescent lights is very close to the absorption spectrum of algae. LED lights seem to help and are more fine tuned to what plants desire. LED's also focus light directly downward, rather than diffusing it around the tank in places where plants are not growing.
