I was cycling my 130 gallon, soon to be discus tank. Plants were thriving with CO2 via ADA pollen diffuser and with all the ADA products. Lights and CO2 were on 12 hours per and on a timer. Had added 6 corydoras trilineatus and 4 Plecos who were happy and Corys had begun spawning. I was waiting 3 more weeks before adding some Wattley discus, cardinal and rummy nose tetras. No problems except for some snails.

Dominican Republic is known for its frequent power outages and during the weekend the CO2 stopped flowing. I fiddled with the valves and nothing happened....I left everything connected and decided to consult with someone more experienced with the CO2 system the next day.

Guess what? Next day the CO2 started AOK but I had left the flow too high. I was not at home and my wife called 3 hours later telling me the CO2 was bubbling like crazy. I told her to unplug the CO2 controller but when I got home all fish were dead.

I removed the dead fish, d/c CO2 for 3 days and did daily 50% water changes. Water became cloudy so decided to add ADA Bacter Balls to reseed the tank and in less than 24 hours the water has cleared.

One positive note is that the CO2 poisoning also wiped out my growing snail population. I went online to see if anyone had experienced this and found nothing. It makes sense that severe and prolonged CO2 poisoning will kill everything aerobic (fish, aerobic bacteria and snails).

Perhaps CO2 blasting can prove to be an effective snail removal system for planted tanks without fish.

Me too, but after that i used an oxygen system and saved some fish and shrimp,checked pH and changed 30% water.^^

I think most people using CO2, have come close to this at some point. I've had it happen at night once. 40 japonics shrimps decides to leave the open top tank. When I woke up, all fish were gasping at the surface and found shrimps everywhere. I immediately changed half the water and added a little H2O2 for extra oxygen. All fish survived.

Like you mentioned, snails don't take it very well either. In fact, I think all invertebrates are more sensitive than fish. To get rid of snails. Rinse your substrate with carbonated water. Do the same with your plants and they'll all be snail free and ready to go back in your tank! Do this with all new plants and you can keep your tank snail free quite easy

Just happened 2 weeks back,wipe out anything that's moving my my tank. 50 fish carcasses on the water surface is not a pretty sight at all....
