CO2 tank question

987 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  SpeedEuphoria
I am venturing into pressurized CO2. I have purchased a Milwaukee regulator. Now I need a co2 tank. My question is, are the tanks that are
used for beer/soda appropriate for aquarium use? I found a 5 lb. aluminum one on e-bay that is reasonably priced. It is new and never been used. But it is listed for soda/beer. Is this the type to use for an aquarium? Or is there a special one?

Yep, no problem.

CO2 tanks are CO2 tanks, no matter what they are used for.(this doesn't apply to paintball tanks).

Most sellers won't list this, but one thing to look at is it's connection, it should have a CGA-320 connection. But a cylinder listed for Beer/Soda will have this.
has the co2 tank you bought on e-bay been hydrostatically checked? all co2 tanks need to be checked and verified for safe use every 5 years (or 3... not sure).

5, some places will just swap it out, some places will charge you $20. Brand new cylinders should come with a hydro date on them. EDIT: well, actually, all cylinders will have the hydro date, but new ones should have a current hydro date.
Thank you both for your help. I will ask about the date. I haven't bought it yet because I wasn't sure if it was what I needed. Thank you again!
I purchased one online for half of local...

also measure the height under your stand to insure you have enough room...

Filled mine for 14.00 at a local welding shop...

Look in your phone book under "Fire Extinguisher", They refill and sell CO2 tanks.

I got a full 15# cylinder with a new test date for $54 out the door, I live in a smaller city also. All the local welding/gas shops wanted $130 for a full 10# cylinder
