I have a 6 compartment betta tank ... 24 inches x 6 inches x 8 inches (each compartment is 4x6x8). I'd like to put a small crypt and/or piece of Java Fern in each compartment. There will be no substrate on the bottom ... instead I'd like to use small pots (2-3 inch diameter). Obviously NOT looking for a super lush growth, just healthy plants. I do have a Planted Light LED above it.
Do crypts NEED (not necessarily what is best) to be buried in substrate, or will they grow in pots with rock wool? Can I just put the contents of a purchased potted crypt into the pot and maybe cover it with a substrate, keeping the roots in the rock wool?
Thanks
