Anybody have an unused Eheim Surface Extractor they'd like to sell? I can't justify paying the steep price for a new one...and you know how we all have a basement full of unused aquarium equipment....

I love it, to me it was well worth $30 bucks. The water surface stays crystal clear of all that surface film gunk, dust, bubbles, etc.

I have one but quit using it. It does do a good job of keeping the surface clear, but does have the following problems:

1. It clogs constantly, especially dead leaves if you have live plants.
2. It sucks in floating food, so you have to close it during feeding.
3. It sucks in small surface-swimming fish. Not pretty.
4. It works best when the float is pointing up, so when the water level goes down, it needs to be adjusted.

Summary - it may be more trouble than it's worth in those circumstances. Hope this helps. I'll sell you mine if you still want one.

isn't it ironic.

Well, for all of you interested parties...I finally caved and ordered a new Eheim surface extractor, after battling a nasty green surface scum for over 2 months.

Well, 2 days after I received it, the algae/scum is miraculously gone.

....the funny part is, I haven't had time to hook up the extractor yet!
