I purchased a 50w Ehiem Jager heater almost a year ago and used it to heat a 5.5g tank and then later a 10g tank. The desired temperature was maintained with seemingly little difficulty in a house that tends to be somewhat drafty. Setting the desired temperature is simply a matter of twisting a dial and there is an indicator light that lets you know when the heater is on. While my feeling is that a heater with a metal casing would be sturdier than the Jager, one does get a sense that for a glass heater the Jager is well built. Mine has had a few 'love taps' with my siphon with no adverse consequences. Another feature that helps to sell the Jager is the mounting bracket and suction cups. The sucktion cups in particular work very well and (thankfully) have little tabs that help the aquarist to remove them when desired.

The only drawback to this heater is its size when compared to other brands. As an example the Jager 50w model is 9" while the Visi-Therm stealt is 81/4" (granted not a huge difference) and the All Glass/Hydor 50w heaters are both 7". I say this, however, with the caution that I have only investigated the size issue for the 50w models. The situation may be different for the larger models.

Overall I would recommend this filter to anyone looking for a robust and reliable submersible heater with excellent suction cups.

ProsSturdy, reliable, good suction cups

This is the best heater I ever bought (150W). You adjust the temperature you want on top of it. No more (+ / -) inaccurate dial!
