Your tank will be just fine with Excel. I've got a tank at work with over 3 wpg and it's never had CO2 in it's life, only Excel. As long as you don't try adding CO2 gas you'll be just fine. Things will grow slower with Excel than they will with CO2 gas, but the growth should be more robust.
