it was my impression that most toninas require very high light
Very untrue, I grow them in low light in some of my tanks with no issues. Even now my backup tank are heavily overgrown. All my Mato Grossos, Goais, Vomits blood, Toninas, other unknown that I have ...etc are getting very low light due to floaters and I experience no issues whatsoever.

Water quality, fert routine & Co2 is much more important to these species than light.

A few tips for growing Toninas: if you find brown spots on the leaves, dose more K. If you find the leaves become yellowish, dose more N. If you find the old leaves start to melt, lower KH
I concur
