Fish are very adaptable to variations in water parameters, including GH and KH, providing those changes are gradual and not sudden. You can keep most fish very well with a wide range of hardnesses. And, most plants grow well with a wide range of hardness.

Wouldn't it be better to do the minimum of changes to your tap water? That way water changes are less stressful to the fish and plants, and it is a lot less work for you.

Plants need both calcium and magnesium to grow well. So, it is necessary not just to have a good GH, but to have both magnesium and calcium contribute to that GH.

I know this isn't exactly what you asked, but it's the best I can do.
