Stuckin,

Welcome to this hobby!

Dallas/Fort Worth is a good place to be if you want to have a planted tank. The stores are generally not a good source of plants or equipment, but the local Aquatic Plant Club (DFWAPC) is very active. You can get very much any plant you want from members.

Check out the DFWAPC forum here on APC:

Welcome to a great part of the aquarium hobby. Take your time, READ EVERYTHING you can and never be afraid to ask questions. Live plants can be complicated at first, but, once you get the hang of it, it's awesome! :p

BTW, have you heard about the plant club in that area? DFWAPC (I think that is the correct name).

Oh, Niko beat me to it. :)

Howdy StuckinTexas! Glad you joined us. You should join the DFWAPC. Niko gave you a link. We're having a meeting this Sunday at my house. People bring plants to trade. Niko is doing a presentation on lighting and Cheryl is going to discuss fertilizing routines. People can tell you about their tanks and also some of the best stores in the area. Like Niko said... the best place to get plants is from fellow hobbyists. This forum has a Sale and Trade section, you can also check that out. People offer single plants and also plant packages.

I dont have anything for trade but maybe i can buy some plants from some people there or atleast arrange something in the very very near future as my tank isnt set up just yet, im still trying to read and learn before i buy anything including my substrate.

Hi stuckinTexas. You're in the right place. I am also from SW Arlington and PetoRama is about it locally. There is a new store, True Percula on Little Road between Hwy 287 and I20 on the west side but I have heard some problems there with prices being really high. I don't go over there very often, but there's The Fish Place near Ridgmar Mall in west Ft. Worth. Go west on I30 to Green Oaks Rd, hang a left at the second light and the little strip center is on the north end of the mall. I have bought a lot of fish and a few plants there.

Come to the club meeting and you will hear reviews of everyones favorite local store and their favorite online store. Mine's drsfostersmith.com for common stuff.

Welcome,
hey i went by that true percula place today and boy is it nice. their fish look much better than the fish at petorama. they have a nice selection...even lots of discus. they are knowledgeable and more helpful than the people at petorama. the problem i have at petorama is that they seem to be understaffed and you cannot get someones attention for as long as you need sometimes. at true percula there were lots of workers and all very helpful. the selection of everything including all equipment is better than average there. yea, some things were a bit pricey but petorama isnt cheap either. they were selling german blue rams for $14 and i plan on buying two within two months from now. its worth checking out. all of their fish looked in top notch quality.
