It's only 2 Chinese characters, but I have them a different orientations if it helps. Can anyone tell me what it means in English?

The first character means like the period the sun sets/dusk; like just before; the eve of. The second is old Chinese for "to burn." Don't think you can use them as a combination like that (I might be wrong ;)), they are separate words; e.g. getting a tattoo of a Chinese character later knowing you got the meaning wrong/character(s) wrong. The first picture is the correct orientation. Cheers!
